“Sterile Summer” Patient Safety Road Trip 2025

The Sterile Aware Roadtrip is officially on the move as part of the “Sterile Summer” Patient Safety Road Trip 2025, sponsored by Van der Stähl Scientific. This exciting initiative will span western United States, offering no-cost educational guidance to medical device manufacturers and healthcare facilities. The goal? To improve patient safety by demonstrating advanced techniques and cutting-edge machinery for medical device packaging. To support this initiative, the team has invested in a state-of-the-art Storyteller Overland vehicle, transforming it into a mobile living space and office. Equipped with a computer network and Starlink connectivity, this vehicle serves as a robust basecamp, enabling the team to stay connected no matter where they set up. This Roadtrip model stems from the belief that evaluating packaging processes onsite at a medical device manufacturer’s (MDM) facility provides invaluable context. Charlie Webb team coordinator explains, “Much like country doctors who engaged in house calls to better understand a patient’s environment and support system, we find immense value in assessing medical device packaging programs within the backdrop of the MDM’s facility and corporate culture. Call and book a visit and learn how the Sterile Aware team can transform and elevate your medical device packaging plan.

Sterile packaging hits the road

We’re hitting the road, visiting medical device manufacturers and hospitals to promote better packaging for patient safety. Along the way, we’ll showcase innovations that help reduce infection risks from contact with non-sterile devices. This Roadtrip is not all work and no play, as we will be hiking and camping along the way in some of our favorite spot. We look forward to connecting with you and sharing our mission on the road!

Beyond medical device pouch sealer

When device contamination hits home

Charlie and Lisa Webb’s lives were shaken in the summer of 2022 when Charlie developed an infection from a contaminated scope that may have contributed to his near-deadly bleeding ulcer. The couple founded SterileAware® to help safeguard others from HAI (hospital-acquired infections) by creating awareness and solutions for healthcare packaging. We invite you to explore our page and learn about all the ways we will serve.

SterileAware™ on stage at the MD&M

SterileAware™ founder Charlie Webb CPPL presented the SterileAware™ story on the pack place stage at the Medical Device Manufacturing Expo this past February. Webb reported, “I was amazed with the excitement generated from my talk, so many connections asking to get involved, we are clearly on an important path”. Our aim is to propagate the discussion of “Zero Defects” in medical device packaging. Expect more speaking dates ahead.

Work and Play, It’s all about balance

Van der Stahl Scientific was born in a charming mountain community, where daily hikes were not just a routine but the perfect backdrop for our meetings. During our Sterile Aware patient safety road trip, we’ll be blending hiking into our workflow, embracing the balance that nature offers. To dive deeper into how the outdoors have influenced our journey, check out this link. Book a visit and learn how your team can become Sterile Aware.

More than just a mission of awareness, we bring action…

The SterileAware® mission is to propagate patient infection awareness to the companies and individuals in the medical device packaging value chain. So many corners of medical device packaging are siloed from the device’s ultimate journey to the point of care. We will also shout out and recognize all the amazing companies and individuals that work hard to assure patient safety through sterile device delivery.

SterileAware® means understanding every touch and stopping point on a patient’s journey through a healthcare facility. From materials, machines, methods, and human connection we must remain mindful of how we connect to patient safety. As this emerging “zero failure” in sterile processing, packaging, and patient connection value continues to bloom, we will be here to support this growing movement, to keep us all Sterile Aware…”
