Smart Ideas in Packaging
Not all of our innovation are a matter of life or death, sometimes they’re just sensible improvements. This past year, frustrated by our own experience with ice cream bulging out of half gallon containers at the supermarket, we patented a better idea. Our “Grow Carton®” will allow for expansion during shipment to higher elevations. Not only will this help ice cream producers thwart revenue losses, the Grow Carton will also provide a safer and cleaner product to the consumer. This is a perfect example of our simple yet meaningful innovation vision.

Solvang, more than just wine tasting and Aebleskiver’s
Yes, we have some amazing wine makers here in the Santa Ynez valley, and a trip to Solvang is just not complete unless powdered sugar is on your shirt from devouring an Aebleskiver. But our valley is more than just a tourist stop off the 101. Dig a bit deeper and enjoy some amazing hiking in the Los Padres National forest or visit one of our many museums in the valley.
Living the good life in Solvang…
When I was in college in San Luis Obispo, Solvang was a short drive and a nice day trip mini vacation. That was 35 years ago and happily little has changed in this Danish detour off the 101. The town of Solvang was founded in 1911 by Danes wishing to establish a Danish Colony in the more favorable California climate, in fact the word “Solvang” means “Sunny field”. When in Solvang you may feel civilization is thousands of miles away, and yet Los Angeles lives a mere 132 miles to the south. The town and the people seem to have a country meets Santa Barbara chic with a twist of Scandinavia vibe. With more than 100 wineries Solvang has become a legit player in the California wine industry and now home to sterile packaging technology.
Technology from the Trail
Our company was founded more than 20 years ago in a small cabin high in the San Gabriel Mountains in California. We started this journey at 6000 ft and now we have moved west to the beautiful central coast of California. Many new innovations are being pondered as we hike the California coastal range Mountains. From the very beginning hiking and the outdoors have been a huge part of the culture at our firm. Maybe it is the 300 plus days of sunshine we enjoy in the Santa Ynez valley that creates a mystical mix of technological alchemy on our hiking trails. We discovered early on, that a rested mind engenders better ideas, and it is still the core of our business philosophy today. Hiking thousands of miles, our energetic and focused free-range meetings, we have developed patented systems that have changed the way the nations leading medical device companies package their instruments. Not all great ideas are borne in boardrooms; some ideas are imagined by friends in hiking boots.
Outdoors: Our way of life…
Many of the patented technologies you have seen on our site today have been borne from our morning hikes. We will never forget the day we noticed how the low angle of light from the autumn sun created shadows on the small rocks on our hiking trail. This awareness led to the low angle lighting system we development with our VIU system, a device developed for the visual evaluation of sterile pouches. Many new innovations are being pondered as we hike the California coastal range, innovations that will explore technology to assure patient safety.
